Director of JWB Jewish Chaplains Council on Speakers' Roster at Second International Jerusalem Conference on Life and Human Dignity

New York, NY, January 30, 2008 – Rear Admiral (Ret.) Rabbi Harold L. Robinson has been invited to join a distinguished roster of scholars, government ministers and military leaders from around the globe at the Second International Conference on Life and Human Dignity in Jerusalem, Monday, March 10-Thursday, March 13, to explore the conference theme from multiple perspectives.

The inclusion of Rabbi Robinson, who directs the JWB Jewish Chaplains Council under the auspices of JCC Association, highlights the significant Jewish presence in the United States Armed Forces, and the key role played by JWB Jewish Chaplains Council in supporting the community's military personnel.

“Most Israelis and many American Jews are simply unaware that there are Jews on active and reserve duty throughout the U.S. military,” said Rabbi Robinson. He went on to note, “As the only Jewish communal agency accredited by the U.S. government to support Jews in the military, JWB has a long, proud history of providing for the troops' spiritual welfare, as well as the welfare of their families.” On the final day of the conference Rabbi Robinson will deliver a keynote address titled “Life and Dignity of Jews,” with Ms. Aviva Raz Shechter , d irector of the Department for Combating Anti-Semitism in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, who is chairing the event.

The meeting has been organized by Dr. Asa Kasher, the vice chair of the Jerusalem Centre for Ethics and Kahanoff Professor at the University of Calgary . Dr. Kasher was the lead author of the first code of military ethics for the Israel Defense Forces and the recipient of the Israel Prize for philosophy in 2000.

Participants will gather in the Konrad Adenauer Conference Centre at the Jerusalem Centre for Ethics, a program of The Jerusalem Foundation. The foundation is headquartered in the historic Mishkenot Sha'ananim complex, constructed in 1885 on a hillside overlooking the Old City and considered the cornerstone of modern Jerusalem .
