Cleveland JCC Opens First Kosher
Subway® In North America
Jared of Subway® Commercial Fame To Cut The Ribbon.
MAY 31, 2006 (Beachwood) – Jared Fogle,
SUBWAY®’s well-known commercial spokesperson, will
visit the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland on Tuesday,
June 6 at 5 p.m. to formally dedicate the opening of the SUBWAY®
at the J—the first and only kosher SUBWAY® restaurant
in North America. The area’s newest SUBWAY® is located
at the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, 26001 South Woodland,
Beachwood.
On Wednesday, June 7, from 10 to 11 a.m., the public is invited
to join Jared for complimentary coffee and light refreshments.
Jared who lost 245 pounds in a year’s time by eating
two SUBWAY® sandwiches a day and by incorporating exercise
into his daily routine, will welcome visitors during the community
open house.
SUBWAY® at the J will be under the kosher supervision
of Cleveland Kosher and operated by a local SUBWAY® franchise
partnership. In keeping with kosher dietary laws the menu
will feature meat and pareve; no dairy items will be served.
Pareve are those items that are prepared without meat, milk,
or their derivatives and therefore are permissible to be eaten
with both meat and dairy dishes. Examples of pareve are fruits,
vegetables, fish, eggs, and bread. With slight modifications,
such as no bacon or ham and soy-based cheese, the menu is
almost identical to that of any other SUBWAY® restaurant.
“SUBWAY® offers a variety of options that tie in
well with the JCC’s desire to promote healthy eating
and healthy lifestyles. It will be great for fitness enthusiasts
and families who use the facility," said Michael Hyman,
executive director of the JCC. “I am not aware of anywhere
else in the country where they have duplicated a popular restaurant
franchise, item by item, to meet kosher dietary laws. This
provides another much-needed kosher dining option for our
community,” Hyman added.
SUBWAY® at the J will be open six days a week for breakfast,
lunch and dinner and be available for dining in, take-out
and catering services. Hours for the restaurant will be: 7
a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
on Friday; and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant
will be closed Saturdays. In addition to offering a typical
SUBWAY® menu, it will also offer a special children’s
menu. The restaurant which can be reached at 216/765-1925,
is located at the front entrance of the JCC building. The
1400 sq ft dining area has been remodeled to the signature
Subway Tuscany décor which provides an inviting family
dining destination of “fast casual, not fast food.”
“The availability of healthy, quickly-prepared food
is a great amenity for JCC members and the public. I invite
everyone to stop by and try our world-famous submarine sandwiches”
said Ghazi Faddoul, development agent for SUBWAY® and
a partner in SUBWAY® at the J.
