Do you have a camp committee? Are you thinking of creating a camp committee? Do you have a few vocal parents and you are not sure what to do with their feedback? Camp committees are great tools to plan for the future of your camp and engage the larger community. This session is designed to help you build and engage a camp committee year round, which will add to the overall excellence of your camp program.

JCC Overnight Camps Fall CONFERENCE

Every other year, JCC overnight camp professionals all come together at a camp to learn, share and grow together. Open to all JCC overnight camp executives, directors, assistant directors, program directors, and (new for 2014) development directors.

Where? Capital Camps & Retreat Center, Waynesboro, PA
When? Sunday, September 14th at 5:00 pm to Wednesday, September 17th at 11:00 am
Optional Wednesday add-on to visit Camps Airy & Louise will end at 3:00 pm
Complimentary transportation will be provided to/from BWI and the Baltimore Penn Station Amtrak at 4:00 pm Sunday, 11:00 am Wednesday and 3:00 pm Wednesday.
Sign-ups for transportation will be collected closer to the conference.

Description: Are you hosting an Israeli camp staff member this summer? If you are, thank you, and MAZEL TOV! You are about to embark on a wonderful, life-changing experience for you and your family. By welcoming a shaliach (an Israeli emissary, or counselor) into your home, you are a critical part of their success. This session is designed for families who are hosting shlichim this summer, to discover strategies to welcome these guests into their homes and learn ways to have a meaningful experience for everyone. Camp directors and other JCC professionals are welcome to join the session as well.

Chizuk Training Seminar

Target: Chizuk Fellows and participating JCC Overnight Camp Directors

Description: The Chizuk seminar consists of an orientation to the program and to JCC camps, and explores the central topics, roles, and issues fellows typically encounter at camp. We will have program shares to “spread the wealth” of ideas and practices, and we will provide time for you to meet with your camp director to plan for the summer.

 

For the US-based fellows, we will hold the seminar in New York from April 7-8. We ask that out-of-town fellows arrive by Sunday evening, April 6 so we can start at 9am Monday morning, April 7. We will conclude by Tuesday, April 8 at 4pm so people can return home that evening. The Chizuk grant from AVI CHAI will cover your transportation and hotel expenses. All US-based Chizuk fellows are required to attend.

Description: If you are considering attending the American Camp Association’s Tri-State Conference in Atlantic City in March, we hope you are planning to arrive early for our JCC Day Camp Leadership Forum, on Tuesday, March 18. This gathering of just JCC Day Camp professionals will provide the space for more structured small group learning and conversation before the large-group Tri-State sessions begin. Our goal is to bring together as many day camp professionals to collaborate and build relationships. As we heard from the 66 new day camp directors with for our New Day Camp Directors Training, the opportunity to share with your colleagues is very important!

TAG develops discrete Jewish content and programming units for day and resident camps, finding ways to integrate Jewish life, experience, and values into the fabric of camp. (TAG has also been effective in afterschool and other youth programming.) Each initiative has drama, discussion, games, art, music, storytelling, and Jewish text study components.
