Description: Hebrew and the linguistic landscape in Florentin, Tel Aviv

Explore Southern Tel Aviv’s bohemian Neighborhood as we decipher the “writing on the walls” – street signs, textual graffiti, bumper stickers and manhole covers filled with Hebrew gems and insights into contemporary Israeli culture.

Guy Sharett is a linguist and former journalist. Following Semitic Linguistics studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, he pursued an MA in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of London. “I started learning Indonesian after reading the ingredients on a bottle of milk I found at the beach in Ashdod, Israel. Anything can be valid material for language learning, and in my tours I try to prove this to my students”, he says. Guy, who speaks seven languages, moved to the Florentin neighborhood of Tel Aviv in ‘06, and has been StreetWising since 2011.
