Bar and Bat Mitzvah Project: Support Our Jewish Troops
Did you know that there are more than 10,000 Jewish men and women serving in the US Armed Forces aboard ships and stationed on bases around the world in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Korea, Japan, Guam, Germany, England, and Italy?
For nearly 100 years in times of peace and in times of war, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council has been proudly fulfilling its mission to provide for the needs of Jewish military personnel and their families and patients in VA hospitals, to relieve a sense of religious isolation and of being alone.
Becoming a bar/bat mitzvah is an important milestone in a Jewish child’s life. Many b’nai mitzvah choose to combine their celebration with a tzedakah project. As they celebrate this important life-cycle event with their family, friends and community, they can participate in JWB’s Support Our Jewish Troops project by raising funds to help bring a Jewish presence into the lives of the dedicated men and women serving our country.
Following are examples of how to support some of our ongoing projects:
- Care packages - Provides our deployed military personnel with items for their essential needs; Jewish ritual items; and educational materials for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. $18/package
- PJ Library - Provides support for JWB to supply Jewish books to the children of military families. $18
- JWB Siddur Inscription - Dedicate a copy of the newly released JWB Siddur in memory or honor of a loved one, or a simcha. Inscribed copies will be sent to a military base closest to the residence of the person being honored. $36/inscription
