JCC Association of North America Responds to Hate Crime Indictment
Against Suspect in Threats to JCCs

NEW YORK – This week, the U.S. Department of Justice filed new hate crime charges against 19-year-old Michael Ron David Kadar, a dual American-Israeli citizen, for the hundreds of threats he made against Jewish Community Centers (JCC) across the United States and Canada from January to March 2017. In response to the new charges, JCC Association of North America President and CEO Doron Krakow said the following:

“JCC Association of North America welcomes the announcement by the Department of Justice that hate crime charges have been filed against the individual responsible for the wave of threats made against our community centers last year. This indictment sends a clear message that we have zero tolerance for any act of terrorism directed against our community.

“We thank the FBI, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security for their relentless pursuit of justice in this case, to ensure the safety and security of every JCC across the continent. We applaud the leaders of our JCCs for continuing to fulfill their important missions of creating inclusive, engaging community gathering places during, and in the aftermath of, these false threats. One year after the first threats were made, our communities are stronger than ever before.”
