Two JCC Association affiliated camps were recognized for their outstanding achievement at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s JCamp180 conference in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Gretchen Gross, president of the board of directors at JCC received the “Outstanding Philanthropist Award” BB Camp, Oregon, won the “Gail Littman Memorial Legacy Stewardship Award.”

Lorca, in Hebrew?

Drama is the universal language at the Drama is the universal language Robert and Dorothy Ludwig JCC of Schenectady on Dec. 10 when Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca’s “La Casa Bernarda Alba,” will be performed in Hebrew. The Israel Women’s Community Theater, a group of women from throughout the Capital District, who rehearse at the JCC every week, have taken on the dramatist’s work, which translates to “The House of Bernarda Alba.” The play, directed by troupe member LIa Yasharzade, focuses on the domineering matriarch, Bernarda Alba, after the death of her second husband, and the control she wields over her five daughters.

one-candle Celebrating Hanukkah by giving back

On Dec. 15, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor will hold the Fourth Annual One Candle for Tzedakah. This year, the JCC is working with Jewish Family Services to provide gifts to the children of Syrian refugee families receiving resettlement support from JFS. Anyone can give a gift before or during the event, and the community is invited to enjoy dinner and Hanukkah games before coming together to wrap the gifts for the children.
