JCC Members Shape-Up with Help from the ICAA
The
scientific evidence is clear —a well-rounded exercise
program that includes aerobic exercise, strength training
using weights, and flexibility exercises, even when performed
regularly in small increments—helps to prevent cardiovascular
disease, cancer, and some of the disabilities that accompany
aging. JCC Association has teamed up with the International
Council on Active Aging (ICAA), the world's largest trade
association for the senior fitness and wellness industry,
to make sure that the JCCs of North America have the necessary
resources they need in order to create a healthier, more vibrant
quality of life for older adults. "JCC Association is
excited to partner with the ICAA on projects we feel will
positively impact the lives of adult JCC members throughout
North America. We are committed to creating every opportunity
for active adults to excel at any endeavor they aspire to,"
said Steve Becker, consultant on health, physical education
and recreation for JCC Association.
The partnership is geared to help JCCs serve
the older adult population better by providing education,
information, resources and tools, so that JCC members who
are can achieve optimal success. “We are extremely excited
about our partnership with JCC Association on a national as
well as a local level. Together we can empower older adults
to maintain their independence and dignity as they age. Together
we can make a difference,” said Colin Milner, chief
executive officer of the ICAA.
Some of the benefits JCC members will receive
are a choice of different publications to help them get the
results they desire, including The Journal on Active Aging™,
Functional U™, ICAA in the News, and In Response. Other
benefits include educational and networking events, educational
courses, the Active Living Partners Program, an online informational
library, answers to frequently asked questions, and member
discounts.
The International Council on Active Aging
(ICAA) is dedicated to changing the way people age by uniting
professionals in the retirement, assisted living, fitness,
rehabilitation, and wellness fields to help dispel society's
myths about aging. The ICAA helps these professionals to empower
aging baby boomers and older adults to improve their quality
of life and maintain their dignity.
