In this talk we will look at the writing of contemporary disabled activists like Mia Mingus, Alice Wong, and Leah Lakshmi Piepezna-Samarsinha on the topic of disability access. We will use this lens to uncover a new Jewish spirituality of accessibility and survival, for this era of tumult and change, where no one is left behind.

Join us for the first season of Disability Culture Club! Each month, we will gather online for a relaxed conversation about a subject or media text relating to disability culture. Whether you’re new to disability cultures or a cultural connoisseur looking to exchange ideas and mingle with peers – this event is for you!

In celebration of Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion Month (JDAIM), our February session will focus on The Disability Justice Torah, and will be led by Rabbi Elliot Kukla. This session will explore key Jewish concepts like B’zelem Elohim (creation in the image of God), communal responsibility, and love, along with texts from contemporary Disability Justice thinkers from BIPOC led movements. We will discuss what Judaism has to say about accessibility and how we can integrate these ideas into our spiritual lives.
