Sue Gelsey

In this role, which she undertook in June 2019, she oversees the growth and development of JCC Association’s signature program portfolio, including JCC Association Center for Israel Engagement, JCC Maccabi®, JResponse®, and JWB Jewish Chaplains Council®, Safety and Security, Sheva Center: Early Childhood Jewish Education and Engagement, and Talent Development.

She previously held several posts at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, New Jersey, including youth services director, camp director, JCC Maccabi Games® director, and program director. Most recently she served as the agency’s chief operating officer, managing day-to-day operations and planning for the $22 million social service agency that has more than 12,000 members, 200 full-time staff, and more than 150 programs daily. Gelsey has spent most of her career in Jewish organizations, including the Union for Reform Judaism, where she was a regional youth director and an assistant director at Camp Harlam, one of the URJ’s overnight camps. She also spent four years with MediFit/EXOS, an international fitness management company, where she supported the creation and growth of a new community service division that helped JCCs, hospitals, and universities improve overall operations.

Gelsey holds degrees in Judaic studies and psychology from Emory University and a master’s degree in recreation management from Temple University.
