JCC Association partners with JTS to build JCC professionals’ career paths
New York–JCC Association of North America, in partnership with the Leadership Commons, part of the Davidson School at the Jewish Theological Seminary, has selected 21 JCC professionals to participate in its first cohort of the JCC Leadership Training Institute.
They 21 middle-management professionals represent a diverse group of JCCs from across North America. They were selected from among more than 40 applicants, who were interviewed and recommended by their JCC executive director. They are all leaders in their JCC and ready to move to the next level in their careers, according to Joy Brand-Richardson, vice president and director of training and professional development at JCC Association.
“This is tremendous opportunity to reward excellence on the part of those who applied, and to develop our next generation of leaders in the Jewish non-profit world,” said Brand-Richardson. “JCC Association is deeply committed to working with them to develop visionary leaders with a deep commitment to Jewish knowledge and values, and a strong group of colleagues with whom they can grow.”
The program was designed to meet the needs of professionals who seek the next level in their career, teaching key concepts and skills critical to exemplary leadership and management of Jewish Community Centers. The 16-month program engages participants in a curriculum of core management and operational principles necessary to successfully lead a complex, non-profit agency.
Individuals will create a shared language and a community of colleagues who weave Jewish knowledge, values and ethics into vision and practice at their JCC. The program will aim to spur inspiration and innovative leadership for the JCC movement.
The goal of the program is to cultivate the next generation of professional leadership experts who possess strong skills in visioning, leadership, management, communication, and collaboration. Each of these areas will be explored throughout the duration of the program.
The highly subsidized program was made possible through a grant from the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Securing Jewish Futures Fund, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and JCC Association. The program begins in early January with an opening webinar and includes three in-person retreats, with additional online learning scheduled in between. Participants will work with JCC Association and JTS staff, who form the core faculty of the program, which aims to spur inspiration and innovative leadership for the JCC Movement.
