Jewish Community Center of the East Bay
JCC Association of North America
We lead and connect the JCC Movement, advancing and enriching North American Jewish life.
Founded in 1978 as the Berkeley-Richmond JCC, we have evolved to meet a changing communityu001as needs. The JCC is a flexible institution, with at-capacity enrollment, sold-out events, and stellar leadership among Board and staff. Serving over 10,000 people each year, the JCC plays an important role as a communal gathering place, including and celebrating people of all ages, backgrounds, types of observance, and religions.
Over the years, the JCC has absorbed and strengthened vital programs that originated atother local JCCs, including Oakland afterschool, Camp Tzofim, and the JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest. In 2006, we were renamed as the JCC East Bay to reflect our broad geographic reach in Alameda and West Contra Costa counties. Our core programs have grown to include preschool, camps, and afterschool; cultural arts, senior, and fitness activities; classes and communal Jewish holiday celebrations.
Today we serve people in Oakland, Berkeley, and neighboring cities. The Berkeley branch, which is a historic landmark building, is situated near the Gourmet Ghetto. The Oakland branch is in the vibrant Temescal area of North Oakland. The JCC also offers large afterschool programs onsite at two Oakland public schools.
