BBYO

As part of its mission to support Jewish military personnel and their families, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council® partners with BBYO to bring opportunities for Jewish living, learning, and celebrating to teens in military families. Jewish teens enrolled in 8th-12th grades with at least one parent on active duty in the U.S. military or diplomatic corps can join a local BBYO chapter at no cost. The teens can maintain their membership status in BBYO, even if the family moves to a new duty station and are eligible for discounts and scholarships for BBYO regional, national, and international events.

BBYO is the leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in meaningful Jewish experiences. With year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring worldwide travel experiences, BBYO’s broad program menu enables teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israeli education, and Jewish values.

This partnership is one of several through which JWB supports children, teens, and adults in Jewish military families. Others include Operation Summer Camp, which brings the joys and values of Jewish summer camp to Jewish children from military families and the Joint Religious Education Program (JREP), which provides accessible, high-quality K-12 and adult Jewish education to active-duty personnel and their families at no cost, regardless of religious background or affiliation.

For more information about the JWB-BBYO partnership and how eligible teens can join BBYO, email JWB.

The Jewish American Military Historical Society

As part of its mission to support Jewish service members and their families, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council® is proud to partner with The Jewish American Military Historical Society.

The Jewish American Military Historical Society strives to preserve Jewish American military history, interpret the impact of Jews to military and civil service, and to educate the public to these contributions.

American military history is a tightly woven fabric of many different colors. The Jewish American Military Historical Society is dedicated to telling American military history from diverse perspectives. It highlights the major role played by the Jewish minority in our military might and defending our country.

In an effort to popularize the subject of Jewish American military history to the younger generation, The Jewish American Military Historical Society has recently produced a comic book depicting the stories of 18 Jewish American medal of honor recipients.

Jewish Community Legacy Project (JCLP)

Who We Are
Jewish Community Legacy Project (JCLP) is the only organization focused exclusively on empowering small Jewish congregations of all denominations in the US and Canada to secure their futures. We serve communities that are often outside of national organizations’ purview. We address unmet needs for thousands of Jewish people who want to be connected to the larger Jewish community.

What We Do
To date, JCLP has:

  • Consulted with over 250 congregations.
  • Stewarded $9.5 million in congregational assets.
  • Helped give new life to 80 Torah Scrolls.
  • Rehomed 40 Jewish and historical artifacts, including minutes, letters, and memorabilia of historic import.
  • Provided 18,000 hours of community consultation free of charge to communities in need.

We partner with congregational leaders to give them the confidence and emotional support to take the first steps, which are always the hardest, toward customized strategic planning for their community.

With a deep understanding of unique needs, JCLP provides the tailored tools, resources, and solutions specific to the challenges associated with operational growth, sustainability, or decline.

Leveraging its proven experience, as well as relationships with regional and national partners, JCLP facilitates effective plans of action for the sustainability of congregational life.

Why We Do It
For those who built small communities. We work to honor those whose dedication, generosity, and Jewish pride built strong congregations throughout North America. For those who are no longer with us, we establish endowments to care for cemeteries and causes important to communities. For those living in small communities. We strive to decrease the isolation felt by those whose populations are dwindling and feel alone. We provide programs for and connections to other communities in similar situations, along with custom planning solutions.

For the next generation. We want to ensure that Jewish life continues in small congregations that are sustainable. For those in which long-term sustainability is not the path, we help create meaning and connection for the assets left behind.

Partnership with JWB
JWB is proud to partner with JCLP in support of small Jewish congregations and Jewish military chaplains, Jewish lay leaders, and Jewish military families:

  • Donation of Jewish Artifacts: Small congregations that are sunsetting or down-sizing have Sifrei Torah, Jewish liturgical texts, Jewish artifacts, and books to donate. These may be available to fill a need on military bases.
  • Home Away from Home: Many small congregations are located near military bases. Members of the congregations can serve as volunteers on the bases. They can also open their synagogues and homes to welcome Jewish military personnel.

PJ Library

PJ Library sends free high-quality Jewish children’s books to families every month. These stories spark conversations that inspire the whole family to explore and celebrate what they love about Jewish life.

The program was created by the nonprofit Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) in keeping with its mission to help people connect to Jewish values, traditions, and culture while building vibrant Jewish communities. The HGF partners with local Jewish organizations to fund PJ Library and make it available in their community.

PJ Library’s educators and experts curate the best Jewish books to match each developmental stage of a child’s journey from infancy to independent reader.

In North America, our team selects an age-appropriate board book, picture book, or early chapter book every month for kids ages 0 to 8. Older readers ages 9 to 12 get to choose their own middle grade book each month from a selection of fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels.

Because there are so many ways to be Jewish, people may thing their family isn’t the right “kind” or “amount” of Jewish to enjoy PJ Library. What subscribers quickly discover is that our program is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and meaningful to families regardless of Jewish experience or level of observance.

We’re proud to be part of a diverse global Jewish community, and we love connecting families who live and celebrate in so many different ways.

No matter what Jewishness looks like in your family, strengthening your children’s connection to Jewish values, traditions, and celebrations can be as easy as adding PJ Library storybooks to your reading time.

Military users should be sure to check the “I am an active member of the U.S. military” box upon registration so your books can follow you wherever you’re stationed in the world!
