Rabbinical Student Scholarships Available in 2020-2021
The following scholarship and loan repayment opportunities are available through JWB Jewish Chaplains Council® for the 2020-2021 school year.
Weinstein Trust Scholarship
Eligibility
- Must be a rabbinical school student attending a non-Orthodox seminary
- Student must already be in the Chaplain Candidate Program (any service) or selected to participate in a Chaplain Candidate Program.
Benefit
- $5,000 per year for a student’s remaining years of rabbinical school (as many as four years for a total award of up to $20,000).
- The scholarship, paid directly to the academic institution ($2,500 per semester), may cover tuition, books, and fees.
Obligation
- A contractual agreement by the student to serve a three-year commitment in the active component of any service upon ordination.
As many as two scholarships will be awarded in 2020-2021.
Friends of the West Point Jewish Chapel Scholarship Grant
Eligibility
- Must be a rabbinical school student attending a non-Orthodox seminary
- Student must already be in the Army Chaplain Candidate Program or selected to participate in the Army Chaplain Candidate Program.
Benefit
- Up to $30,000 a year for one student for each of the remaining years of study (three or four years
- The scholarship, paid directly to the institution ($15,000 per semester), may cover tuition, books, and fees.
Obligation
- For a scholarship of three or fewer years: A contractual agreement by the student to serve a three-year commitment on active duty in the Army upon ordination.
- For a scholarship of four years: A contractual agreement by the student to serve a four-year commitment on active duty in the Army upon ordination.
One scholarship will be awarded in 2020-2021.
Army Loan Payback Program
Eligibility & Obligation
- Available to a rabbi who enters the Army full-time, and is on a contract for at least a three-year period. Cannot be offered in conjunction with a cash bonus.
Army Reserve Tuition Assistance Program
Eligibility
- While attending seminary, chaplain candidates may apply for tuition assistance through the U.S. Army Reserve.
Benefit
- Students can receive up to $250 per credit hour with a maximum cap of $4,000 to $4,500 per year.
Obligation
- This program requires service of at least four years in an Army Reserve unit.
